This is how you reach your New Year's resolutions
Having New Year's resolutions is something that belongs to every new year, and most people are familiar with the saying "new year, new opportunities." The new year can definitely offer new chances to create new habits, quit a bad habit, or learn something new. At the same time, almost everyone knows the feeling of setting a number of goals for the new year without being able to follow through. New Year's resolutions in themselves can be both motivating and work well to create new habits, but they must be followed up. There can be several reasons why you don't reach your goals, and here you can read about various pitfalls to avoid and tips on how to achieve your New Year's resolutions!

Three things to avoid when making New Year's resolutions
1. Setting too many goals
This is a classic pitfall, as people see the new year as an opportunity to accomplish everything they didn't manage the previous year. But having too many goals often makes them unclear and difficult to carry out in practice. Therefore, you should pick one or two goals that you want to focus on.
2. Making goals based on things you actually don't want
Another common pitfall is setting goals that don't align with what you like, who you are, and what you enjoy. Even though the new year offers opportunities, you won't wake up as a new person the moment the year turns. Therefore, it's very important to make goals based on what you truly believe in and want to accomplish. For example, if you want to eat less meat but actually really enjoy eating meat, it will be difficult to carry out if your New Year's resolution is to become a vegetarian. A simpler and clearer goal you can have is rather to eat meat-free meals one or two days a week.
3. Not implementing the goals into everyday life
This is perhaps the most important pitfall to avoid. It is incredibly important to break down your New Year's resolutions into small goals you can achieve daily. Then you can monitor progress and adjust the goals if you have set too big or difficult goals.
Tips to achieve your New Year's resolutions
- Make a plan
- Break your New Year's resolutions into smaller milestones so they can become a part of your daily life and a new habit.
- Get a friend or partner involved so you can motivate each other!
- Don't let a setback set you back completely. Learn from the mistake and move on.
When making a plan, it can be wise to have some guides to relate to, especially regarding training. A good tip is to check out a beginner's guide to yoga, or a general guide to training programs for beginners. Having something pre-made to relate to can make it easier to create the training plan.

The most important thing to remember is that it takes time to change or get a new habit. How long it takes, however, is much debated. But it can take anywhere from one to three months. Therefore, the most important tip is to keep going if motivation fades and work on the smaller milestones while keeping the big goal or New Year's resolution as a motivational factor.

Reach your goals for next year
Achieving your New Year's resolutions can be very difficult and demanding, especially when all the goals involve strict training routines you have to start. It's easy to feel guilty if you don't do everything you say you will in your New Year's resolutions. If you notice that you struggle a bit with motivation when it comes to reaching the bigger resolutions, it's wise to set smaller goals for yourself that are easier to achieve.
